About us

Our Story

Enabled2parent became a registered charity (1190879) in 2020. It evolved from the experiences of our founder, Sarah Fay, a Paediatric Occupational Therapist and a disabled parent herself. During pregnancy, Sarah tfaced unexpected challenges as a disabled parent. Accessible mother-and-baby classes were scarce, and integrating caregivers into her birth plan proved difficult. After her child’s birth, the lack of tailored parenting support led to her being classified as high-risk. While searching for solutions, Sarah realised there was a significant lack of information, advice, and support available for disabled parents. She faced difficulties finding guidance on baby carriers suitable for wheelchair users or prams and pushchairs designed for those with limb loss, as well as help with risk assessments. The more Sarah searched as a parent, the less information she found. Unfortunately, she learned that due to this lack of resources, some disabled parents were losing custody of their children and being deemed unfit to care for or support them. Enabled2Parent was born from necessity and is now working to empower disabled parents through technology, trained specialists, and community support.

Why It Matters

Disability often impacts more than the individual—it affects entire families. Children of disabled parents face social exclusion due to barriers in employment, housing, healthcare, and education. We advocate for a national strategy to ensure disabled parents receive the support they deserve. Enabled2Parent works with parents facing various physical, neurological, and mental health conditions, breaking barriers to create an inclusive future for all families.
